Set in the heart of the Pyrénéan foothills on the edge of Parc Naturel des Pyrénées, Les Hauts Pâturages is ideally situated in an area that offers everything from excellent outdoor sports to just relaxing by the heated outdoor pool.
This area of France is renowned for its stunning views and breathtaking scenery, with more than 300 mountain lakes and peaks to discover, and of course the famous Cols of the Tour de France.
The Alps may have the glamour but the smaller friendly resorts of the Hautes Pyrenees offer great opportunities for experienced skiers, children and beginners. Amongst beautiful mountains known for their hiking, downhill and cross country skiing trails the department has 439 ski runs and 340km of ski and cross-country trails – the most in the French Pyrenees.
At Les Hauts Pâturages we are very lucky that we are around 45 minutes drive several wonderful ski resorts. During the winter months we turn La Bigourdane into a winter ski chalet and are able to offer fully catered ski/snowboard holidays – we do the driving, prepare fantastic food and wine, organise ski passes, hire gears etc whilst you enjoy the snow. Why ski at one resort when you can ski a different resort every day.
Les Hauts Pâturages is an ideal starting point in the mid-mountains for many excellent walks, rambles and bike rides. One family walk takes you to the Croix Blanc Viewing Point, from where you can see the mountain range to the South and a magnificent view of the valleys to the North. Slightly further on is the Pastoral area where horses, cows and sheep graze. We are able to offer walking holidays (fully escorted or self guided) please contact us for details.
A good warming-up exercise before doing any of the bigger peaks, is the Pic de la Clique at Germs (1048m). After that you can move on to the Col de Couret (1527m) or the even more adventurous Pic de Montaigu (2339m).
On the mountain roads before dropping down into Bagnères lies the plateau d’Esquiou, where you might bump into the occasional wood-cutter or shepherd. This is the starting point of numerous walks, including the Pic de Labassère and the Pic de Monné
